You need to get out more...

The San Francisco North Bay area has an abundance of beautiful and wild public lands. From beaches to mountains, we are lucky to have an endless opportunity for hiking and appreciation of Nature’s bounty. On the second Saturday of every month we’ll set off on a different trail, rain or shine. Along the way we’ll do a little meditation, mindfulness, learn some practices, and get in tune with the universe. Hikes will be moderate in pace, length and difficulty, with an interesting destination. You’re invited to join us.

Angel Island State Park

From the Angel Island website:
In the middle of San Francisco Bay sits Angel Island State Park, offering spectacular views of the San Francisco skyline, the Marin Headlands and Mount Tamalpais.
The island is also alive with history. Three thousand years ago the island was a fishing and hunting site for Coastal Miwok Indians. It was later a haven for Spanish explorer Juan Manuel de Ayala, a cattle ranch, and a U.S. Army post.
From 1910 to 1940, the island processed hundreds of thousands of immigrants, the majority from China. During World War II, Japanese, and German POWs were held on the island, which was also used as a jumping-off point for American soldiers returning from the Pacific. In the '50s and '60s, the island was home to a Nike missile base.
It became a state park in 1962. We’ll take the ferry across Raccoon Strait to Ayala Cove, and do a little island dharma hiking, including a visit to the park’s high point, 788-foot Mt. Caroline Livermore, which offers the spectacular views mentioned above.
The ferry leaves Tiburon every hour on the hour, beginning at 10 AM. We’ll try to catch the 11 AM shuttle. If you’d like to join us, plan to get to the ferry area about a half hour early to give you plenty of time to park. Bring a lunch, camera, etc.

Getting There

Take the Tiburon Blvd exit, go east, and follow Tiburon Blvd 4 miles into downtown Tiburon. Just before the bay is a roundabout, and parking is all roundabout there. The ferry is located on the left at 21 Main St.
Ferries leave the island at 20 minutes past the hour, with the last one at 5:20. Cost is $13.50 per person and includes entrance to the park.
